Blacks In Government (BIG)


Joe Roberson was elected as the 2020 President of the Pacific Ocean Chapter of Blacks In Government (BIG).  The mission of Blacks In Government, commonly called BIG, is to promote equity, excellence and opportunity through training and education for African Americans in local, state, and federal governments and provide opportunities for members/employees to have the ability to maximize their career opportunities and provide a mechanism for inclusion, growth and advocacy.  

Joe is currently employed as a Supervisor Air Traffic Control Specialist, at Wheeler Army Airfield, in Wahiawa, Hawaii.  Joe became a Department of Defense (DOD) Army team member in June 2011. He has been in his current position since September 2014.  He is responsible for maintaining the Standard Terminal Automation Replacement System (STARS) Elite and the Army Airfield Automation System (AAAS).  He retired from the Navy, after 21 years, as a Chief Petty Officer.

As a leader, Joe Roberson will work hard to be visible to the local community, to increase membership, and to increase access to various local and state officials and organizations in the state of Hawaii. He will embody the following guiding principles: To be accountable, committed to excellence, act with integrity, take responsibility, work as a Team and to remain loyal and dedicated.
